Travelling through Heathrow

As always, we’re looking forward to welcoming you to the airport and we’re working hard to make sure your trip runs as smoothly as possible. To help with this process, please be aware of the following:


Consider your arrival times

Allow 3 hours to check-in before your flight and make sure all your travel documents are up-to-date. Please do not turn up significantly early for your flight though, as this can cause unnecessary congestion in the airport.


Terminal Drop-Off Charge

A £5 charge applies to vehicles dropping off passengers at the designated drop-off zones, located directly outside the terminals. Discounts and exemptions apply. Free drop-off is available at our Long Stay car parks.


Terminal 4 airline moves

Terminal 4 has re-opened and up to 30 airlines are moving there during the summer. You should always keep in touch with your airline to confirm which terminal your flight departs from before travelling to the airport.

    Tickets and fares

    Cash payment is not accepted on Transport for London buses.

    Instead you can use:

    Child fares

    Children aged 5-18 and students may be eligible for free or discounted travel on buses and other TfL transport.

    Where buses operate to at Heathrow

    1. Heathrow Central Bus Station, located between Terminals 2 and 3 and right above the London Underground station.

    2. Heathrow Terminal 4, just outside the arrivals level of the terminal building and a short walk from the London Underground and Elizabeth Line stations (please note - Terminal 4 is temporarily closed and all flights are operating from Terminals 2 and 5).

    3. Heathrow Terminal 5, just outside the arrivals level of the terminal building and above the London Underground and Heathrow Express/Elizabeth Line stations.

    Free travel has ended

    A valid ticket is now required for travel on any public bus at Heathrow Airport.

    Picking up and dropping off

    Picking up and dropping off is not permitted in the central bus station. Please use the set-down lanes outside the terminals. You may unload on the terminal forecourt but waiting is not permitted. Police and airport staff patrol the forecourts and will ask waiting vehicles to move on.

    If you are meeting someone you must use the Short Stay Car Park in Terminal 2 or Terminal 3. Waiting is not permitted on the terminal forecourt.
    Alternatively you can use the Long Stay car park free of charge for up to 30minutes. Re-entry to Long Stay is prohibited within 24 hours.
