A £5 charge now applies to vehicles dropping off passengers at the designated drop-off zones, located directly outside the terminals. Discounts and exemptions will apply. Free drop-off will be available at the Long Stay car parks.

Coronavirus update

Face coverings are mandatory at the airport and we encourage everyone to wear one at all times, unless they’re exempt. Passengers can purchase face coverings at several retailers at the airport including Boots and WHSmith. 

 

The safety of both passengers and colleagues has always been Heathrow’s number one priority. The airport has several COVID-secure measures in place to make sure everyone has a safe journey including: 

 

- Enhance cleaning regimes including Hygiene Technicians, UV robots and other anti-viral technologies to ensure continuous disinfection across terminals

- Dedicated COVID marshals to enforce social distancing

- 600 hand sanitiser stations 

 

Due to the emergence of a new Coronavirus variant, the UK Government have advised that fully vaccinated passengers arriving into England must:

 

Take a PCR test no later than 2 days after their arrival.

- Self isolate until they receive their result.

- If a passenger tests positive, they must isolate for 10 days.

- If a passenger tests negative, they can leave self isolation.

 

Passengers arriving from a country on the red list must book a managed quarantine hotel.

 

Passengers who are not fully vaccinated must continue to follow separate guidance.

 

As countries may change their entry requirements, we advise customers to check the UK Government website for up to date information.

  • Drop-Off areas are located right outside the terminal for the easiest and quickest way to drop-off passengers.

    There is a £5 charge for vehicles entering the drop-off areas, discounts and exemptions apply. The charge is priced at £5 per visit.

    Our car parks remain open, where normal parking charges apply. The drop-off charge does not affect passenger pick-ups, which will continue to take place via the car parks. You cannot pick up passengers from the drop-off zones.

    How to pay

    You can pay in advance, on the day you drop-off, or by midnight the next day. You have three ways to pay: online, by autopay functionality or by automated telephone service.

    Terminal Drop-Off Charge - things to note

    1. The Terminal Drop-Off Charge is operated via Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) – there are no barriers, and you will incur a charge once you enter the drop-off.

    2. A £5 charge per drop-off to the terminal drop-off zones will apply.

    3. The charge cannot be paid at an airport ticket machine or in the terminal drop-off zones.

    4. The Terminal Drop-Off Charge is only payable online, via an automated telephone service or via autopay

     

     

    Alternative drop off

    Free drop-offs will be available at the Long Stay terminal car parks, with a free bus transfer to the terminals. Follow road signs towards Remote drop-off and Long Stay.

    Additional information

    The charge is £5 per vehicle for each drop-off in the terminal drop-off zones. Payments can only be made by card.

    The charge can be paid online, by auto-pay functionality or via an automated telephone service

    Advance payments for drop-offs last for 12 months. Trips purchased are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, after which they will expire.

    Please note, the charge cannot be paid at an airport ticket machine or in the terminal drop-off zones.

    Free drop-off options are available at Heathrow’s Long Stay car parks, where passengers can take a free bus transfer to the terminal.

    If you are a taxi (black cab) who is actively licensed with London Taxi and Private Hire (TPH), you will have a 100% discount. This discount will be applied automatically to taxis actively licensed with London Taxi and Private Hire (TPH) until 1st April 2022, allowing TfL time to conduct a public consultation and for any adjustment to meter charges to be made in accordance with statutory requirements. This discount is only for a taxi (black cab) who is actively licensed with London Taxi and Private Hire (TPH), all other taxis (black cab) must pay the £5 Terminal Drop-Off Charge.

    Private hire vehicles (PHVs) do not have a 100% discount from the Terminal Drop-Off Charge. PHV drivers and operators need to pay the Terminal Drop-Off Charge if they drop-off in the terminal drop-off zones.

    The drop-off charge does not affect passenger pick-ups, which will continue to take place via the car parks. You cannot pick up passengers from the drop-off zones.

    Our car parks continue to operate as normal. 

    The Terminal Drop-Off Charge applies to Heathrow’s terminal forecourts, the passenger drop-off areas located in front of the terminal buildings. There are signs on the roads in and around the airport to ensure drivers are aware of the chargeable zones. We use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to enforce the charge and Parking Charge Notices (PCN) will be issued to vehicle owners if payment is not received.

    The Terminal Drop-Off Charge will operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

    If you hold a valid UK or European Economic Area (EEA) Blue badge, you’re eligible to apply for a 100% discount even if you don’t own a vehicle or drive. You can apply for a discount for the vehicle you are being dropped off in. 


    Blue Badge holders can apply for a drop-off up to three months in advance or by midnight the day after their drop-off.

    You will be asked to provide the following information as part of your application:

    • Vehicle registration number
    • Visit date
    • Badge number
    • Email address
    • Flight number
    • Image of the front and rear of blue badge

    Confirmation of a successful application will be sent by email.

    A Blue Badge application is only applicable for one drop-off. Each drop-off requires its own application. Failure to complete a Blue Badge application for each drop-off may result in a Parking Charge Notice being issued.

    If you are a Blue Badge holder arriving by taxi, you can register for the 100% discount using the taxi vehicle registration number in advance, during the trip or by midnight the day after the drop-off. Confirmation of a successful application will be sent by email. The taxi driver can confirm the Blue Badge holder discount has been applied by matching the Blue Badge holder Receipt ID with their Receipt ID within their business account online, under the ‘Trip Management’ section. 

    Exemptions

    You don’t have to pay the Terminal Drop-Off Charge if the vehicle is a Heathrow permitted operational vehicle or recorded at the DVLA in one of these categories:

    • Emergency service vehicles, such as police, ambulances and fire engines
    • Military vehicle

    All exemptions stated above will be applied automatically to your vehicle. 

    Discounts

    A 100% discount will apply to your vehicle if it is recorded at the DVLA in one of these categories:

    • Roadside recovery vehicle – have a taxation class of ‘recovery vehicle'
    • Two-wheeled motorbikes
    • Heathrow Valet Parking
    • Bus or coach*

    * There are height restrictions on our forecourts. If you are dropping off a group of departing passengers by coach please click here to find out where you can drop off.

    All discounts stated above will be applied automatically to your vehicle. 

    Please note exemptions and discounts will not apply to electric vehicles.

    The charge was initially proposed last year and forms part of our updated Surface Access and sustainability plans. The scheme aims to prevent a car-led recovery and reduce airport-related traffic.

    Income from this charge will contribute towards new sustainable transport initiatives at the airport, with additional revenue helping to lower overall airport charges. The airport has been severely impacted by the pandemic and this charge will enable us to continue to invest in congestion-reducing Surface Access projects and to protect jobs at Heathrow.

    Heathrow is the last major UK airport to introduce such a charge, as similar drop-off charges are already in place at the other 9 major UK airports. The Terminal Drop-Off Charge replaces our previous plans to introduce a Heathrow Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (HULEZ) by 2022 and a Heathrow Vehicle Access Charge (HVAC).
