    Latest news,

    After a challenging few months, we’re excited to see our retailers begin to open their doors again.

    The safety of our passengers and colleagues remains our number one priority as we reopen. That’s why we’ve been working closely with our retail partners to implement new measures to ensure you feel safe, protected and confident to travel again.

    We now have over 30 stores open across terminals 2 and 5, including a small number of cafés and restaurants which can be enjoyed contact-free via contactless payment, the Heathrow app and Heathrow Boutique.

    Takeaway food and drink can be ordered on the app remotely, ready to pick up a short time later, whilst items from a selection of stores can be reserved ahead of arriving at the airport, meaning you can shop your favourite brands from the comfort of your own home.

    This week also saw Gordon Ramsay Plane Food re-open its doors to Terminal 5 passengers, making it the first full-service restaurant at Heathrow to do so. There are of course a number of measures in place to ensure safe distancing is carried out between tables and a speedy takeaway menu as well.

    In our new video, we explain what the new normal for shopping at Heathrow looks like and the extra measures in place to make you feel comfortable.

    Extra safety measures at the airport

    Although things are understandably quite different this summer season, colleagues across the airport have been working hard to prepare for your return to the UK’s hub airport.

    This week we announced that we’re implementing several new technologies as well, including:

    • UV cleaning robots which use UV rays to quickly and efficiently kill viruses and bacteria at night;

    • Kone UV handrail technology will be fitted to escalators to ensure continuous disinfection of the moving handrails;

    • Self-cleaning anti-viral wraps fitted to security trays, lift buttons, trolley and door handles, aiming to provide long-lasting protection from COVID-19. The wraps work by coating high-touch surfaces in a material with long-lasting anti-viral protection;

    • Dedicated hygiene-technicians that will thoroughly disinfect the airport and answer passenger queries on the methods being used.

    Fly Safe Pit Stops

    These are in addition to the existing set of measures in place across Heathrow:

    • Mandatory face coverings when at the airport;
    • Temperature screening trials;
    • Over 600 hand sanitiser dispensers;
    • Touchless journey experience using Heathrow and airline apps;
    • Social distancing markings across the airport.

    Alongside our partners, Swissport and Collinson, we are ready to host the UK’s first pilot ‘Test-on-Arrival’ initiative, which - subject to Government approval - could allow COVID-negative passengers arriving from higher risk countries to enter the UK without the need to quarantine.

    Whilst the introduction of travel corridors is a first step in restoring confidence in international travel, we need Government to act faster to lead the way in establishing Common International Standards that would allow safer travel to critical trading routes, moving past the current quarantine.

    And, as awarded by Skytrax for the 11th year, we’re proud to return to offering you the ‘Best Airport Shopping in the World’, with a range of fantastic offers to help welcome you back.

    We look forward to seeing you again soon.
