Shanghai is one of China’s most vibrant and affluent cities with its confident and buzzing atmosphere. It differs from other places in China that exude ancient and imperial spots. Shanghai is a modern metropolis with many spectacular sites to visit for a scenic and unique experience in the Far East. Here are some of the top things to do in this innovative city.

Bask in the beauty of Shanghai at The Bund

One of the top things you must do during your stay in Shanghai is visit the Bund and take in the gorgeous views on display. The Bund offers stunning sites of Shanghai’s famous skyline, lined with tall skyscrapers and majestic architecture. It sits along Huangpu River, and the 500m wide stretch splits the city in two.

There are many ways to take in the impressive views, and one is simply by taking a leisurely stroll along the Bund and enjoying this part of the city on foot. Alternatively, you can cruise down the Huangpu River and enjoy the city skyline on a boat.

If you are after a more bespoke and special way to spend time at the Bund, then there are private convertible jeep rides that are available for you to enjoy with a partner or a small group of friends.

Enjoy the gorgeous green spaces at Yuyuan Gardens

Just a stones throw away from the Bund, you will find Yuyuan Gardens, a serene area of natural beauty and impressive architecture. It is worshiped and celebrated by locals as it is the only remaining Ming Dynasty garden in Shanghai.

It has the most stunning scenery, complete with strikingly decorated bridges and pagodas bursting with colourful patterns. There are also cosy enclaves throughout the park that are partitioned by walls decorated with dragons.

It may be worth visiting the gardens with a tour guide, as it can get overcrowded with tourists quite quickly. A tour guide will be able to direct you around the grounds efficiently whilst explaining the rich history of the garden.
