Cabin baggage liquid rules

Prepare for security

Heathrow has nearly completed upgrading its security equipment. This will transform passenger experience, making travelling simpler, smarter and more accessible.

Passengers travelling through Terminals 2, 3 and 5 can now leave large electrical items and liquids, up to 2 litres, in their cabin baggage when going through security.

In Terminal 4, upgrades are ongoing, so passengers may be asked to remove electricals and liquids from their cabin bags at security. Liquids, gels, aerosols and pastes are still only allowed in containers of up to 100ml, and if asked to be removed, will need to be placed in a 1 litre clear plastic bag. Bags will be provided.

Please note that while new scanning and detection equipment is being installed at UK airports, passengers should be aware that this new technology may not be available at airports both within and outside the UK.

What not to take

Banned and restricted items

Some items are completely banned from the aircraft and others are prohibited in the cabin. Please pack accordingly and leave the banned items at home...

Baggage allowances

Baggage allowances depend on airline policies, fare paid, class of travel, route, aircraft type and government regulations.
