Rail engineering works: 15 & 16 November

Due to planned engineering works, there will be no Heathrow Express or Elizabeth line train services to Heathrow on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November 2025.

Piccadilly line services from Central London will be running as normal, but these services will be much busier than normal.

Please allow for extra time when making journeys on public transport over the weekend.

Lounges, Travel tips,

Going on holiday with your little ones is a wonderful way to create unforgettable family moments and memories. There’s just the small, and sometimes tricky, task of reaching your destination as smoothly and swiftly as possible. I recently flew to Spain out of Terminal 5 with my one-year-old in tow, and here is everything that made our journey through the airport a lot easier.

Park with peace of mind

We started our journey by using Heathrow’s Park and Ride car park, essentially the long-stay car park, which allowed us to leave our car for 10 days with complete peace of mind. From entering the barriers to finding a parking spot and catching the regular passenger bus to Terminal 5, the entire process was seamless and stress-free.

Child-friendly check-in

Once we entered Terminal 5, we went straight to the designated family-friendly check-in area, which welcomes little ones with an adorable SkyFlyer pack filled with flight-friendly goodies. The separate check-in area allowed us to drop off our bags more smoothly before making our way through security, which also has an allocated family lane to avoid longer queues.

Lounge around with your little one

Reaching the other end of security always feels like an extra achievement with a baby, so we decided to treat ourselves with a visit to a lounge. We made our way to Terminal 5’s Plaza Premium lounge, which we had booked online in advance, and found ourselves enjoying the provided amenities in no time. They were kind enough to reserve a space for us when they knew we were coming with a baby, and provided us with a highchair right away.

The staff were so attentive to us, taking our drink orders so that we didn’t need to get up and go to the bar, and they even bought us a couple of yoghurt pots for our little one to enjoy. The seating on both the sofas and the dining tables was very comfortable, and the lounge had all the baby-changing facilities we needed. The 360-degree views of planes taking off and landing were an additional bonus and helped keep our baby entertained while we tucked into some delicious nibbles and prosecco.

Brilliant baby-changing facilities

Beyond the lounge, Heathrow’s Terminal 5 has an ample amount of fantastic baby-changing facilities that make it easy to handle those unexpected blow-outs at any given time. The areas are spacious and clean, with comfortable lounge chairs in a separate feeding area.

My husband and I were extremely pleased with our journey from the car park all the way to the gate through Heathrow’s Terminal 5. It was the best way to prepare for a comfortable flight and a wonderful holiday with our one-year-old.
