Rhea is a local from Buckinghamshire, who was studying an apprenticeship in Hearing Therapy at Bristol University when, to her disappointment, the department shut down and she had no choice but to discontinue her studies and re-assess her career goals.
Rhea began a new role at Sainsbury’s, quickly progressing within the business when she was headhunted for the role of Customer Service Leader with World Duty Free (WDF). Rhea has now been with WDF for over 14 years and has swiftly developed to the position of Store Manager. Here’s what Rhea thinks about apprenticeships.

A day in the life Q&A:

Innovative - Fast-paced - Efficient

Heading up the unique Flexi Function in Heathrow, where I am accountable for 150+ employees, I have 6 direct reports which include 4 Customer Service Leaders who keep me extremely busy. The Flexi team are remotely managed and no one day in their week is the same, as they are deployed all across Heathrow.

I really enjoy the pace and the people at the airport - no two days are the same.

  1. Practical skills – being able to put into practise the theory I learn
  2. Being able to think globally (which impacts decisions on both the business and the people)
  3. Communication skills

I would always recommend someone to apply for an apprenticeship – both WDF and I have seen the personal growth and benefits in me doing this. It takes personal commitment from you to complete this journey and although it is hard work, you will reap the rewards at the end.

People think apprenticeships don’t lead to good recognised qualifications or they’re for school leavers only, but this isn’t the case as apprenticeships are available to people of all ages.

The last 14 years have been a quite a journey. In the next decade, I would like to use all my knowledge and skills to land myself my ideal job in the HR field and have been promoted.
