Expanding Heathrow

In July 2025 we submitted our proposal for a third runway to Government. Our proposal will create an airport that is fit for the future, enabling the quality service that global passengers expect, open up exciting new routes and unlock benefits for the whole of the UK.

Updated to reflect the needs of today, our proposal builds on decades of economic evidence, is shaped by years of consultation and engagement with airlines and our local communities, and is backed by Chambers of Commerce, businesses, airports and trade unions across the UK.  

In November 2025, after reviewing proposals put forward, the Government has announced they support Heathrow's scheme for a third runway. It will now be taken forward to inform the Government’s review of the Airport’s National Policy Statement (ANPS), with publication of the draft ANPS expected in summer 2026.

We welcome the Government’s support for our scheme to build a third runway at Heathrow. The Government’s announcement is a positive step, but we need further clarity from the Civil Aviation Authority and the Government on how the crucial next phase of the project will be regulated. We need definitive decisions so that delay to the project can be avoided and we can get on with delivering this vital project for our customers and for the UK.

It has never been more important or urgent to expand Heathrow, the UK’s hub airport; it is time to clear the way for take-off.
