NATS air traffic control technical issue - 9th September

Following yesterday’s technical issue affecting NATS air traffic control, Heathrow’s operations are recovering.

Flights are operating today, however some knock-on disruption is expected as airlines reposition aircraft and crew.

Passengers are advised to check the latest status of their flight directly with their airline and to only travel to Heathrow if their flight is confirmed as operating today.

We apologise to passengers affected by the disruption. Additional colleagues are available across our terminals to provide support, and we are working closely with NATS and our airline partners to return operations to normal as quickly as possible.

Graduate Leadership Development Programme

The scheme

You'll undertake three six-month placements offering broad experience across the airport. Graduates will gain exposure to both frontline operations and corporate functions. The programme is designed to develop leadership skills, commercial acumen, and project management capabilities, while also contributing to our digital and data transformation agenda.

Operational placement
  • Through collaborating with our colleagues and carrying out projects in the operation, you will be able to get a real understanding of how we run one of the world’s busiest airports in areas like passenger services, operational planning and security.
Non-Operational placement
  • This will typically be in an area like our Customer Function (such as retail, marketing or airline engagement), Solutions (such as data, process improvement or PMO), Strategy (such as planning, forecasting, data insights, communications or sustainability), where the projects you work on will give you real insight into how we develop and deliver solutions to support our passengers and be a profitable business.
Tailored placement
  • Your third and final placement will involve opportunities to consolidate and refine your skills. The type of role will depend on your personal strengths and preferences. We’ll work with you to find a placement that stretches and challenges you, whilst helping develop your strengths.

Supporting you for success

Throughout the programme you will be supported by a dedicated mentor who can answer any questions you may have about the organisation and help you find solutions to any challenges you may face. Plus, you will have a ‘buddy’ to show you the ropes until you find your feet. In the final months of the programme, you will also have the support of a senior sponsor from our leadership team. They will be there to help you build your networks, challenge your thinking and unlock opportunities.

You will also go through a structured learning programme, providing you with all the tools to build a career at Heathrow. From here you can go anywhere.

Where do you take your career next after completing the scheme? The possibilities are almost endless. Previous graduates have gone into every area of our business, from frontline operations to infrastructure development, to one of our award-winning head office teams.

What we’re looking for

As our business continues to evolve, data and digital capabilities are becoming important across all roles. We’re constantly looking for new ways to use data and technology to help Heathrow transform and grow, and are looking for candidates with a passion for digital to join us.

Additionally, we’re seeking graduates who drive success, communicate with clarity and confidence, and embrace change with agility. A ‘can-do’ attitude, integrity, and a real passion for living our Heathrow values are essential.

Together, these qualities will help us build a future-ready workforce that can thrive in a data and digitally driven environment.
