Cycling and walking are practical solutions to beating the traffic, providing freedom and convenience to your commute.

Cycling to Heathrow

Making cycling an enjoyable and straight forward option for you…

Your dedicated cycling shop, workshop, and information point to enable you cycle to work safely, easily, and cost-effectively.

Located next door to Heathrow Academy, the Cycle Hub is the only airport dedicated bike shop in the UK and offers experts to answer your cycle related questions.

To make sure all of our current and future cyclists feel supported and confident, our cycling experts from Runway Cycling are on hand to help. Ask questions about which bike is best suited to you and your commute, or where you can store your bike on our campus. The Runway Cycling team can also give you advice about buying a bike and accessories.

If you purchase a bike from the Cycle Hub, a free cycle fitting will also be offered to make sure you're set up with a perfectly fitting bike.

Take a look at how we are working our neighbouring Local Authorities to connect and build out our cycling network. This is set out in our Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan, published in April 2023:  Heathrow Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan

The Cycle to Work initiative is an employee benefit that saves you up to 42% on the cost of purchasing a bike and accessories. You will pay nothing upfront, and the payments are taken tax efficiently from your salary over a period of time.

Due to the current closure of the tunnel side bores, cycling to the CTA is not possible. However, there are some free alternatives:

Park at PEx colleague car park (Eastern Perimeter Road) where secure cycle lockers have been installed in the southwest quadrant (please access via the pedestrian/cycle gate by the roundabout). Free buses take colleagues to terminals 2 and 3 every six minutes at peak times (04:00 - 07:00, 12:30 - 15:00, 20:30 - 23:00). Outside of these times there is a bus every 10 minutes. Cycle parking is provided in the form of individual lockers, you will need your own padlock. Padlocks should not be used when there are no bikes inside.

Park your bike at Terminal 5 or Hatton Cross and use free the inter-terminal trains between approx. 05:15 and midnight. The Piccadilly Line operates up to every 10 minutes and the Heathrow Express operates every 15 minutes. Elizabeth line also operates in the evenings and at weekends, every 30 minutes.

If you have a folding bike, you can take it with you on any of the trains mentioned above.

Non-folding bikes can be taken on Heathrow Express and Elizabeth line services outside of peak hours.

Our cycle parking is scattered around the campus to ease your commute when you decide to travel in by bicycle. Take a look at the cycle map to see where your closest parking facilities are

We are currently in the process of improving some of our cycle parking facilities, keep an eye out for updates.

The Heathrow Cycle Hub also offers a bike boxing service for taking bicycles on flights.

Walking to Heathrow

For those that can, walking is a great way to get to work and look after your wellbeing…

20,000 Team Heathrow colleagues live within 3 miles of the airport, making walking a potential opportunity for a reliable, healthy, and cost-effective commute. Many of us also live within walking distance of a bus, tube, or rail station, which means incorporating a short walk into your daily commute could be very easy to do.

Starting and ending your day with a short walk can provide great benefits physically and mentally. Wake your body up for the day, or decompress after work, and feel the health benefits of walking regularly.

Always consider your safety and follow safe walking routes.

Get rewarded

Team Heathrow colleagues can download the Way2Go App to get rewarded on your sustainable commute.
