Rail disruption - 4 & 8 October 2023

Due to planned industrial action and engineering works, there will be disruption to rail and London Underground services between Heathrow and Central London on Wednesday 4 and Sunday 8 October 2023.

Over this period, there will be disruption to Heathrow Express and Elizabeth line services

Please note, the London Underground (Tube) strikes that would have affected the Piccadilly line on Wednesday 4 and Friday 6 October 2023 have now been suspended, and the Piccadilly line will be running as normal throughout this period.

Passengers should plan their journeys before travelling, and allow for additional time where necessary as services will be busier than normal.

ULEZ expansion - 29 August 2023

London's Ultra Low Emission Zone, or ULEZ, is expanding to encompass all of Greater London, including Heathrow Airport, from the 29 August 2023.

The initiative, implemented by Transport for London (TfL), is aimed at reducing air pollution in London, therefore all vehicles entering the airport must meet certain emissions standards in order to avoid paying a daily charge.

The daily charge for non-compliant vehicles is £12.50 for most vehicles, including cars, vans, and motorcycles.

The charge will be in addition to any other fees or charges associated with entering the airport. The charge only applies when a vehicle is driven within the ULEZ zone, and does not apply to stationary vehicles including when cars are parked at Heathrow.

Please note, if you have booked Meet & Greet or Valet Parking with a non-compliant vehicle, and have selected a different exit terminal to your entry terminal, you will be liable for payment of a ULEZ charge to transfer your vehicle to another terminal.

Engineering Apprenticeships

Engineering Apprenticeships

Develop your passion into a career

When it comes to engineering opportunities, nothing quite matches Heathrow. Our engineering teams work across the airport on a huge range of state of the art development, construction and maintenance projects. Together, they are responsible for £14bn worth of assets, including 4 million square metres of airfield pavements, 180km of airside and landside roads, 33 surface car parks, 50 tunnels and 31 bridges, not to mention the largest private water distribution system in Europe. As we are responsible for all of it, what do you want to learn about first?

Our Engineering Apprenticeship programme is exciting, with no two days being the same. You will earn while you learn. It’s about working on real-life projects and getting to grips with the kind of engineering challenges you won’t find anywhere else.

Why is it a recognised route to success?

Our scheme has been running for 40 years and has produced many of the best engineers and technicians who work with us today. More than half of our current engineering team started as apprentices. On our four-year apprenticeship, you’ll work alongside and learn from some of these highly experienced colleagues, developing the diverse skillsets needed to run and maintain the critical engineering infrastructure we have at Heathrow.

Accredited Training

Over the four years, you will gain accredited NVQs at levels 2 and 3 and BTEC Level 3. There is also the potential for you to study towards a Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND) or BEng Foundation Degree.

What we’re looking for

To be successful in this programme, you will have a real passion for engineering and a sincere dream to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a professional engineer. We can develop you faster if you are willing to adapt to feedback and have a flexible, positive approach.

We are looking for a minimum of GCSE grade 5 or above in Maths, English and Science in terms of qualification requirements. Alternatively, you could have an equivalent qualification such as A levels BTEC, etc. We are happy to advise individual candidates if required. If you are qualified to degree level or higher, we recommend you look at our Engineering Graduate Programme.

As an equal opportunities employer, we encourage applications from diverse individuals. We believe that diverse talent makes us stronger – not least because we welcome passengers from all corners of the globe every single day. We’re an accessible workplace, driven by inclusivity and celebrating individuality. For more information, please visit our diversity & inclusion page.
