Clean air at and around the airport

Heathrow is committed to improving local air quality and reducing emissions from airport operations.

Improving air quality has been a long-standing priority for Heathrow. Over the past decade, we have taken practical steps to cut emissions from our operations and support cleaner air both on and around the airport.

Our monitoring stations show clear progress:

  • NO2 levels have fallen by 39%

  • PM10 levels have fallen by 37%

  • PM2.5 levels have fallen by 35%

  • Measurements compare 2014 and 2024 annual mean data

  • Levels are now below legal limits, including on the runway

We continue to monitor air quality closely and focus on further reductions where we can.
