The UK’s Gateway to Growth

Expansion at Heathrow could boost every UK nation and region with more supply chain opportunities, connectivity, investment and tourism.

Passengers and airlines

Heathrow expansion would give passengers lower fares, more destinations to choose from and more frequent flights to existing destinations. The Airports Commission found that by 2040, a third runway could unlock around 30 new daily routes, including 10 new long‑haul destinations, while also allowing airlines to add more flights on existing routes. That extra capacity means more choice and stronger competition — helping to keep prices down and improving value for passengers.

Passengers already benefit from Heathrow being the best‑connected airport in the world, and recent performance shows excellent passenger service. Last year, Heathrow was Europe’s most punctual hub, welcomed record passenger numbers, improved baggage performance, and delivered its highest summer satisfaction scores.

Independent analysis by Frontier Economics shows how passengers would directly benefit from increased competition made possible by unlocking capacity at Heathrow. With Heathrow currently full, passengers pay a ‘congestion premium’ as demand is higher than supply. A third runway would help remove that bottleneck, delivering an estimated £79 billion in passenger benefits over 60 years.

Heathrow is committed to making every journey better — but with the airport full for many years, expansion is essential to create an airport that delivers better value, better service, and more choice for passengers.

Expansion at Heathrow will provide consumer and economic benefits and represents a unique opportunity for easyJet to operate from the airport at scale for the first time and bring with it lower fares for consumers.
