One-off flight updates: Flying Messenger

How to use it

For an instant flight status update, text lhr (for Heathrow) plus your flight number to 82222.

So for example, if your flight number is BA081, your text should read: lhr ba081.

You'll receive a reply giving the current status of your flight.

* Cost: 25p per request plus operator charge, if any. No charge for 'flight not found' or 'service unavailable' messages.

When you can use it

The service is available up to 12 hours ahead of scheduled departure time at Heathrow, and for up to four hours afterwards.

Requests can only be sent on the scheduled departure date of the flight. Need to set up an alert in advance? Our Flying Messenger Plus service lets you do that.

What it costs

Flying Messenger costs 25p per request, plus any charge your network makes for a single text message. We don't charge for 'flight not found' or 'service unavailable' messages.

If you have a contract with a mobile operator, the charge will appear on your regular bill. If you use a pre-pay phone, your network operator will deduct the charge from your balance.

Multiple updates: Flying Messenger Plus

Example alert

Flying Messenger Plus lets you follow a departing flight's progress with up to three SMS alerts. You can set it up in advance too.

What you get

  • Flight status at the time of request (advance requests: 12 hours before departure)
  • Status update four hours before scheduled departure
  • GATE OPEN notification when flight is ready for boarding.

How to use it

To set up a request, send a text to 82222 with the following details:

  1. lhr (for Heathrow)
  2. Flight number
  3. dep (for departures)
  4. Date of departure (ddmmyy).

* Cost: 75p per request plus operator charge, if any. No charge for 'flight not found' or 'service unavailable' messages.

So for flight LH909 departing on 25 September 2014, your text would read: lhr lh909 dep 250914.

When to use it

You can request Flying Messenger Plus up to two weeks ahead of the scheduled flight time.

Flying Messenger Plus costs 75p per request, plus any charge your network makes for a single text message. We don't charge for 'flight not found' or 'service unavailable' messages.
