Coronavirus update

Face coverings are mandatory at the airport and we encourage everyone to wear one at all times, unless they’re exempt. Passengers can purchase face coverings at several retailers at the airport including Boots and WHSmith.

The safety of both passengers and colleagues has always been Heathrow’s number one priority. The airport has several COVID-secure measures in place to make sure everyone has a safe journey including:

- Enhance cleaning regimes including Hygiene Technicians, UV robots and other anti-viral technologies to ensure continuous disinfection across terminals

- Dedicated COVID marshals to enforce social distancing

- 600 hand sanitiser stations

Due to the emergence of a new Coronavirus variant, the UK Government have advised that fully vaccinated passengers arriving into England must:

Take a PCR test no later than 2 days after their arrival.

- Self isolate until they receive their result.

- If a passenger tests positive, they must isolate for 10 days.

- If a passenger tests negative, they can leave self isolation.

Passengers arriving from a country on the red list must book a managed quarantine hotel.

Passengers who are not fully vaccinated must continue to follow separate guidance.

As countries may change their entry requirements, we advise customers to check the UK Government website for up to date information.

  • Overview

As Mozambique continues to establish itself on the global travel map, exciting new tourist regions are springing up. One of these areas is Inhambane, a small city on the southeast coast about 290 miles (470km) north of Maputo and easily accessed by a tarred road.

Previously, tourists merely passed through Inhambane on their way to the beaches of Tofo, Cocos, and Barra. These days, more and more are stopping over to savour the historic city, with its sleepy atmosphere and faded colonial architecture.

Tourist attractions in Inhambane include the Church of our Lady of Conception. It's a 175-year-old building that features a ladder stretching up to its topmost spire, offering panoramic views of the old quarter and harbour.

The Mercado Central is a market where colourful arrays of fresh produce are for sale. Adventurous travellers can strike out for more remote areas of the province, where picturesque villages and mangrove swamps lie in wait.

Most tourist activities like diving, snorkelling, and whale-spotting take place at the beaches located about 14 miles (22km) up the coast. But tourists should enjoy a traditional dhow ride to the historic trading port Maxixe, a larger city across the bay.

Of particular interest to those planning a tour around southern Africa is the fact that Inhambane is a direct flight away from Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport.

Location: The airport is located on the outskirts of the city of Inhambane in Mozambique.
    Time: GMT +2
Getting to the city: Taxis are readily available at the airport. Ask one of the friendly airport staff members what they feel a reasonable fare into Inhambane city is, and agree on this price before getting into the taxi.
Facilities: Inhambane has very limited facilities, although there are a few snack kiosks available. On the plus side, queues are ridiculously short at the airport, so you will not have too much time to kill.
Parking There is plenty of both short- and long-term parking available at Inhambane Airport. However, parking is largely of the uncovered variety, and security might be an issue.
