Ryan’s image captures his beautiful daughter Poppy during the Airport Fire Service Christmas Party where our Heathrow heroes got the chance to show their loved ones around the festive fire station. We caught up with Ryan to find out more about his #lifeatheathrow.
Almost five years.
Unpredictable - Exciting - Ever-changing.
A day in the airport fire service can vary hugely. One minute you can be taking part in training drills and daily routines, the next you’re responding to full scale aircraft and domestic emergencies. Every day is different, but that is what makes it interesting.
The changeable nature of the place. You just have to accept and expect that any plans you make are likely to be interrupted or change by the tasks that come your way, but working alongside a team of dedicated and highly skilled professionals makes the unknown exciting and easier to accept.
Just take the plunge! Even if the original path you’re aiming for doesn’t work out, there are so many other options – there really is something for everyone here.
At the top of our 42m aerial ladder platform on a clear day is a great.
Just recently the Fire Service hosted a Christmas party where the families of the crews could come into the station, see where we work and have some fun. It was great for our spouses and kids to see the appliances, the station, and even meet Father Christmas!
I’m a fully fledged member of the cult that is CrossFit. Think P.E. for adults, and the only rule of CrossFit is that you have to tell everyone you meet that you do CrossFit. Other than that, my time is spent preparing for baby number 2 who is expected to come into the world in March 2019!
None that I can divulge to everyone at Heathrow!
