Martin’s image – “Rise and shine” – captures an aircraft arriving on Heathrow’s runway 27R during early hours of the morning. We’ve caught up with Martin to find out more about his role at Heathrow.
I joined Heathrow in 1989, and have been working in Operations since 1991
Varied – Exciting – Challenging
Although the role has changed and evolved, no two days are the same whether they be on the manoeuvring area (runways and taxiways) or within the vast roads and stands environment.
I enjoy the varied role as each day is different and you never know what’s around the corner. Having the responsibility to constantly liaise with airline staff, handlers, contractors, Air Traffic Control etc in this constant changing environment is what I enjoy most about my role. The early days in the 1990’s were particularly enjoyable as there were a huge variety of different aircraft manufacturers (propeller and jet).
Arriving aircraft regardless of the runway or direction.
I’ve been involved in many interesting events over the years, really too many to single out one in particular.
I enjoy taking photographs, and many years ago (in the 1990’s) I completed a series of photography City and Guilds courses. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to engage with this hobby anymore.
Our Social Media and Airport Communications teams are working together to co-ordinate the series and share these great Heathrow moments with the over 1 million followers across the airport’s official channels!
