I joined Heathrow part-time as a Security Officer in Terminal 4 in 2012 – I loved the job because it allowed me the flexibility to maintain a good work-life balance which was particularly important for me at the time as my daughter was very young. Prior to Heathrow, I had worked in a PR agency in London, so it was quite a change!
After a wonderful three years in our operation, I wanted to get back into working a non-shift based role and with the support from my manager at the time, I secured a position as a Team Administrator at Terminal 5. This role really built my confidence and helped me gain experience; through this, I acquired a new and very different skill set from my time as a Security Officer. Whilst in this role, my manager helped me map my career which is not something that I had thought about doing before. It really helped me to understand what I wanted from my career and what I needed to learn to ensure that I could be successful in what I wanted to achieve.
I subsequently secured a role in project support for the IT Programme Delivery team. During this time, I had the opportunity to enrol onto an apprenticeship in project management. After a year on my apprenticeship programme and following me successfully passing my exams, I was able to secure my current role as an Assistant Project Manager.
I am a great advocate for Heathrow and what it stands for – the opportunities available are endless and I love that I am able to help make a difference. My experience to date has been invaluable and I am extremely excited about my future at Heathrow.
