A degree in geography can take you virtually anywhere, so it’s quite fitting that I work within a business that does just that for 80 million passengers a year and many thousands of colleagues throughout their careers.
I joined Heathrow in 2011 on the graduate scheme, initially working in the programme management office in our Development team, before moving into operational readiness for the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games (one of the true highlights of my career to date!), regulatory strategy, baggage strategy and finally project management. As a Project Manager I initially delivered refurbishment projects in our terminals before leading the main asset management business case across Heathrow, working closely with our Engineering team to ensure we provide a safe, sustainable and high-quality environment for our passengers and colleagues.
At Heathrow, opportunities to broaden your skillset are only limited by the scale of your ambition. With a focus on the longer term, the Portfolio Manager role offered me an opportunity to develop our pipeline of future projects, from a new taxiway surface to an entire terminal redevelopment. Most recently, I took up an exciting role in our Expansion function as Senior Strategic Planning Manager, ensuring we are integrated across our teams who are unwaveringly focused on our ambition of sustainably connecting all of the UK to global growth. I am also privileged to lead our Assistant Project Management scheme, where we are committed to developing a pipeline of talent for our exciting future.
There’s just something about Heathrow – once you’ve got the bug, it’s impossible to shake and I’d recommend pursuing a career here to anyone!
