Summer 2015

The Airports Commission presented its final recommendation – Heathrow expansion - to the Government.

In September 2012 the Airports Commission was set up by the Government to examine the need for additional UK airport capacity and to make recommendations on how this could be met in the short, medium and long term. In July 2013 we submitted our proposals for a new runway at Heathrow airport.

After a north-west third runway proposal was shortlisted in The Commissions December 2013 interim report, Heathrow consulted with stakeholders across the UK to improve it. In line with The Commission process, we submitted a revised plan in May for a north-west third runway which addressed the issues raised during our consultation.

On 1 July 2015, the Airports Commission handed down its final report and made a clear recommendation for Heathrow expansion. The recommendation is now being considered by the Government.
