Clean bus and freight technology

Clean Bus and Freight Technology

This seminar looked at developments in the bus and freight sectors that are helping drive down emissions. The first session presented a number of initiatives to reduce emissions from commercial vehicle operations. There was an update from Transport for London on their programmes to reduce freight and van fleet emissions. We had a presentation from British Gas on their experience with electric van fleets. Finally, Dearman presented their liquid air engine that is being used to provide zero emission refrigeration units.

The second session explored experiences with low emission bus technologies. John Bickerton from Reading buses talked about his experience with both gas and hybrid electric buses and how they compare. We then had a presentation on the electric buses being used at Schiphol airport and finally a talk on a trial from Milton Keynes on inductive charging for their electric buses. There was also the chance to see some of the vehicles in real life with a gas bus and an electric bus being available to view at the venue.
