One-off flight updates: Flying Messenger

How to use it

For an instant flight status update, text lhr (for Heathrow) plus your flight number to 82222.

So for example, if your flight number is ET700, your text should read: lhr et700.

You'll receive a reply giving the current status of your flight.

When you can use it

The service is available up to 12 hours ahead of scheduled arrival time at Heathrow, and for up to four hours afterwards.

Requests can only be sent on the scheduled arrival date of the flight. Need to set up an alert in advance? Our Flying Messenger Plus service lets you do that.

What it costs

Flying Messenger costs 25p per request, plus any charge your network makes for a single text message. We don't charge for 'flight not found' or 'service unavailable' messages.

If you have a contract with a mobile operator, the charge will appear on your regular bill. If you use a pre-pay phone, your network operator will deduct the charge from your balance.

Multiple updates: Flying Messenger Plus

Flying Messenger Plus lets you follow an arriving flight's progress with up to three SMS alerts. You can set it up in advance, too.

What you get

  • Flight status at the time of request (advance requests: 12 hours ahead of scheduled arrival)
  • Notification when the flight is on final approach into Heathrow
  • Notification when baggage is in the arrivals hall.

How to use it

To set up a request, text 82222 with the following details:

  1. lhr (for Heathrow)
  2. Flight number
  3. arr (for arrivals)
  4. Date of arrival at Heathrow (ddmmyy)

So for flight BA006 arriving on 30 April 2015, your text would read: lhr ba006 arr 300415.

We'll send a confirmation message when everything's set up.

When to use it

You can request Flying Messenger Plus up to two weeks ahead of the scheduled flight time.
